My Lived Experience
Robert’s lived experience as an ADHD adult and therapist shapes his neurodiversity-affirming approach to counselling and training.
Being diagnosed with ADHD later in life was both validating and transformative. Suddenly, patterns I’d experienced for years made sense — the constant mental juggling, the sensory sensitivities, the bursts of hyperfocus, and the burnout that followed periods of masking.
My own experience of navigating education, work, and relationships as a neurodivergent person has given me an insight into what clients often describe:
The exhaustion of hiding traits to “fit in”
The frustration of being misunderstood or dismissed by professionals
The relief of finally having words for lifelong experiences
The challenge — and freedom — of learning to live authentically after diagnosis
This lived perspective is not separate from my professional role — it’s part of what makes my approach deeply empathetic, practical, and real.
