Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for Adults

Adapted CBT for Neurodivergent Adults

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is one of the most widely used approaches for supporting mental health. It helps people understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, and develop strategies to create change.

But for neurodivergent clients, standard CBT worksheets and rigid step-by-step models often don’t fit. That’s why I provide an adapted CBT approach, tailored to the thinking styles and lived experiences of adults with ADHD and autism.

How Adapted CBT Works

In our sessions, CBT is flexible and practical — designed to meet you where you are. We might:

  • Break tasks and goals into smaller, manageable steps

  • Use visual aids or real-life examples instead of abstract concepts

  • Allow flexibility in session structure, following what’s most relevant that day

  • Incorporate sensory regulation strategies alongside thought-based tools

  • Focus on building strategies that actually work in your daily life

What CBT Can Help With

Adapted CBT can be helpful for a wide range of challenges, including:

  • Anxiety and overthinking

  • Low mood and depression

  • Procrastination and motivation difficulties

  • Managing overwhelm and emotional intensity

  • Improving problem-solving and coping skills

If you’ve tried CBT before and found it unhelpful, it may simply be because it wasn’t adapted to your needs. With the right approach, CBT can be a powerful tool for change.

My Approach

I combine clinical training in CBT with my lived experience as a neurodivergent adult. That means I understand both the evidence-based techniques and the realities of applying them in everyday life. Therapy sessions are always collaborative, at your pace, and affirming of your identity.
